Henry Thomsen, son of Peter and Dorothea Thomsen, was born in Germany on December 15, 1869 and departed this life in the Dallas County Hospital at Perry on July 1, 1967, at the age of 97 years, 6 months and 16 days. Before his death, he resided for some time in the Lutheran Home for Aged in Perry.
He came to Iowa in the year 1887 and lived for some time in Dallas and Boone counties. He chose farming as his occupation in life. He became a member of the Lutheran church by baptism early in life, later he attained full membership in the Lutheran church through the rite of confirmation.
On June 15, 1893 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Seemann of Bouton, Iowa. Four daughters and two sons were born to this union.
The family lived in the home community for some years and then moved to the state of Texas in 1908, coming back to Iowa and Madison county in the year 1910 residing on a farm in the Earlham community.
Mrs. Thomsen departed this life on May 10, 1944 after a brief illness. The two sons preceded Mrs. Thomsen in death – John in 1923 and William in 1928.
The members of the family joined the membership of Trinity Lutheran congregation of Van Meter soon after coming to Madison county. Mr. Thomsen was the oldest member of Trinity congregation at the time of his death.
He is survived by his four daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Johnston of Stuart; Mrs. Mary Jensen of Van Meter; Mrs. Emma Compton and Mrs. Frieda Schafer of Earlham; ten grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
