JACOB I. CRAWFORD

Jacob I. Crawford was born in Madison County, Iowa on December 25, 1898, the son of Lily and Landing Crawford. He attended rural school through the 8th grade and in 1917 he graduated from the Earlham high school.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 29, 1918 at Des Moines and after serving his country overseas, he was discharged on April 2, 1919.

In 1932 he was united in marriage to Ruth Walters of Galva, Iowa and to this union two daughters were born. They are: Donna Rae, now Mrs. Jerry H. Smith of Omaha, and Betty Jean, now Mrs. Robert E. Gay of Solana Beach, California.

In 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford and their family moved to Harlan, where Mr. Crawford was employed by Squealer Feed and Grain. He worked there until he retired in 1963 because of his health.

He passed away on February 11, 1967 at the Veterans Administration hospital in Omaha at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 16 days.

Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth.

In addition to this wife and daughters, he is survived by two brothers – R. A. Crawford of Winterset, and D. H. Crawford of Earlham. He is also survived by other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 13, at 1:00 p.m. at the Pauley Home for Funerals in Harlan with Rev. Edwin Meineker officiating. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Casket bearers were: Al Krogstad, Alvin Conrad, Wendell Woods, Kent Parkhurst, Leonard Anderson and LeRoy J. Christensen.
