MRS. MATTIE WOODS

Martha Ann Whitt was born near Trenton, in Harrison county, Missouri, Jan. 27, 1852, and departed this life Feb. 25, 1917, at the age of 65 years, and 28 days.

She came with her mother to Iowa in 1865. On Nov. 9, 1875 she was united in marriage to George Winfield Woods, at Brooklyn, Iowa, where they lived one year, moving from there to Madison County, where she has since resided.

At the age of 14 years she united with and was baptised in the Baptist church at Winterset, and in later years she united with the United Brethren church at Jefferson township and remained a faithful member until her death.

All her life she made the Bible her daily study, and her prayers were that her family all would live to meet her in Heaven. The last few weeks of her life were spent in constant prayer that her Savior would take her home from her earthly sufferings. She had been in ill health for several years, and on Dec. 12, 1916, she was taken quite sick and has been confined to her bed until the end came.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and four children: Nelson of Las Vegas, New Mexico, who was not present at her death; Austin, of near Macksburg; Mrs. W. A. Ryner, of Union township, and Hattie, at home. Two children died in infancy. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one brother, N. B. Whitt of Winterset and one sister, Mrs. Hannah White of Vollmer, Idaho.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, Feb. 26th, at Jefferson U. B. church, conducted by Rev. N. F. Hicks. Interment in the Jefferson cemetery.
