MRS. SUSAN HOUSTON

The following is the obituary of Mrs. Susan Brummett Houston and was written by the deceased.

Susan Brummett Houston was born February 24, 1842 in Henry county, Missouri. On June 22, 1859 she was married to Franklin Houston, in the same county as was her birth. Her husband preceded her in death on August 11, 1885, leaving his wife and nine children to mourn their loss. In 1889 the oldest daughter, Laura Houston Fouche, was called to the better land.

The eight children living are: Winifred and William of Osceola, George Dillon of Montana, Mrs. Audrey Pen Darvis of Des Moines, Mrs. Hattie Archer, Harry and T. B. and Mrs. Kate Buchanan all of St. Charles, also twenty-one grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

On March 4, 1903, she moved to St. Charles, where she lived till her death, on May 12, 1933.

Her funeral was held at the home, Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Fields cemetery in the family burial lot. Pall bearers were C. C. Guilliams, H. V. Brooks, H. A. Mueller, J. L. Stayton, J. D. Peffley and I. K. Sayre.

Those from a distance coming to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Burleigh Teller, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Teller, Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Dodd of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Ollie Archer of Winterset, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Kelley of Indianola, Russel Anderson of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Ike Fouche of Truro.
