FRED E. CLAPPER DIES

Truro (Special) July 4th--Fred E. Clapper, well-known railroad man of this community, died last Wednesday at the age of 68 years.

Fred Elmer Clapper was born in Memphis, Mo., March 7, 1871. When he was a small boy, his parents moved to Downing, Mo. At an early age he began work on the railroad.

In 1896 he was sent to Prole, Ia., as a foreman. In the following year 1897 he was united in marriage to Miss Ollie May Burkhead of Prole.

To this union one child was born, Opal. Death claimed her in 1917 at the age of 19. A nephew of Mrs. Clapper, Donald McWilliams, at the age of seven, was taken into their home. He graduated from the Truro high school.

In 1912 at Prole Mr. Clapper and his wife united with the Church of Christ.

In 1914 Mr. Clapper transferred to Truro. In this new location he served the company until his retirement from active service in 1936. The company rewarded him for these faithful services by retiring him on a full pension in 1936. He served as a councilman, and as a director in the school. He was interested in the Masonic and Eastern Star orders.

Death came Wednesday evening, June 28th, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 21 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at the Kale funeral home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Clayton P. Shepard was in charge. Burial was made in the Worthing cemetery.
