JOSEPH C. JACKSON

Joseph Conor Jackson, eldest son of Andrew and Mahala Jackson, passed away at his home near Earlham, Iowa, April 2nd, 1921.

He was born January 3rd, 1841, near Spartansburg, Indiana. At eight years of age he was deprived by death of a father's care and help, and at twelve years of age was making his own way and contributing to the support of his mother and the three younger children.

In early manhood he was married to Abigail Jane Diggs. To this union three childen were born, one passing on in infancy. The others a son and daughter with the mother are left to mourn the loss of a devoted father and husband.

In 1869 he moved with his family near Earlham, Iowa, where with little exception he has since resided. He was a birthright member of the Friends church. Converted early in life he soon became active and earnest in the work of the church, holding many position of responsibility, always discharging every duty with cheerfulness and fidelity though it meant sacrifice.

In a few of the latter years of his life, because of failing health of himself and his wife he often regreted his inability to engage as actively in the Lord's work as formerly, but no wavering of faith, the anchor held.

Gone! a faithful servant, a wise cousellor, a devoted husband and loving father.

Services were held at the church in Earlham, Iowa, in charge of W. Jasper Hadley of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Interment in the Earlham cemetery.

The funeral of Joseph Jackson occurred last Monday at the Friends church, Rev. Jasper Hadley having charge of the service. Mr. Hadley, who now lives at Iowa Falls, has been an intimate friend of the Jacksons for many years. Mr. Jackson has been a great sufferer for many weeks, but he bore the pain with much patience. He was a birthright member of the Friends church, and has lived a devoted Christian life through all the years. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Fred LeMar of Washington, who came some time ago to care for her father; and a son, Will Jackson of Davenport. These, with their families, have the sympathy of the community that will also miss this good man who has lived here so many years.
