Death of Mrs. Amos P. Diggs

Mrs. Diggs passed away last Saturday night from heart failure. She had been a sufferer for many years and she and her family knew that the end would come suddenly. She had been a resident of this community for nearly forty years and her death will be sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held Monday morning in Friends church, conducted by Rev. John Stribling, and interment was in Earlham cemetery.

Elizabeth Nichols, daughter of Thomas and Jane Nichols, was born in Danville, Ind., Nov. 10, 1850 and at the time of her death was aged 58 years and five months. When a girl of nine years she, with two sisters, was left without a father and ten years later she came to Iowa to live with her sister, Maggie Osborn.

On Dec. 22, 1870, she was married to Amos P. Diggs. To them three children were born-Charles, Lotta and Leota. They with the bereaved husband know the kind, patient and loving motherly care, she has always given them. Her self denial through life for both family, relatives and friends, is untold. One sister, husband, three children, with many relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of a dear wife, mother and sister.

Mrs. Diggs was all her life a member of Friends church, dying in the full assurance of faith, having this testimony-that she pleased God.
