MRS. C. E. JESSUP PASSED SATURDAY

Funeral Services Were Held Tuesday at Primitive Baptist Church

Mrs. C. E. Jessup, a well-known woman of Lincoln township, died at her home south of Winterset last Saturday. She was 69 years of age.

Mrs. Jessup was a native of Nevada, Ia., where she was born July 25, 1869. She was the former Zula Grace Elwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Elwell. Her home had been in Lincoln township for the past 20 years.

Funeral services were held from the Primitive Baptist church, just northeast of Winterset, on Tuesday. The Rev. Mr. Thompson, a visiting pastor, was in charge. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.

Zulu Grace Elwell, daughter of George and Hannah Elwell, was born July 25, 1869, and died at her home near Winterset, April 15, at the age of 69 years, 9 months and 20 days. She was married to Rodney Blaisdale who died in 1917, and later in 1919 she was united in marriage to Charles Jessup of Winterset, making their home on a farm south of town.

In early life she united with the Christian church of which her father was pastor. Later she united with the Primitive Baptist church, near Winterset, in August 1926, of which she was a member until her death.

She is survived by her husband, four step children, one brother, two half brothers, one half sister, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Primitive Baptist church, one mile northeast of Winterset, Tuesday, April 18, conducted by Elder A. W. Thompson of Casey. Burial was made in the cemetery nearby the church.

Coordinator's note: Of the two versions of her name, "Zula" and "Zulu", the latter is found on her death certificate and in the 1920 Federal Census. The former is only found in the Madisonian obituary. In almost all documentation, she is "Grace Z.".
