Native of Madison County Had Moved From Here About 1903
Mrs. Dorothy Eola Steele, a resident of Madison county prior to 1903, died June 15 at her home in Yakima, Wash. She was 72 years of age.
Mrs. Steele was born in this county on Oct. 26, 1866, the daughter of L. F. and Anna Means. She attended school in both Winterset and Macksburg, and graduated in music from Drake university in Des Moines. Later she taught music in the public schools of Madison and Union counties.
Mr. and Mrs. Steele moved to North Dakota about 1903 where they homesteaded a quarter section of land. She started teaching in the rural schools there, continuing for 24 consecutive years. About two years ago they moved to Yakima, Wash.
Mrs. Steele was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive, in addition to her husband. Her descendants numbered 54 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Ivan Means of Lorimor, Mrs. Bertha Schutz of Macksburg, Mrs. Luella Heizer of Hubbel, Neb., Mrs. Ethel Blessing of Seattle, Wash., and Andrew Means of Lincoln, Neb.
Funeral services and burial were held June 20 at Yakima, Wash.
