THOMAS H. TRAVIS DIES OF HEART ATTACK

Peru--(Special)--Thomas H. Travis, one of the most widely known citizens of this community for four score years, died suddenly at his home near here Saturday evening. He had been in failing health for some time, but had been in town earlier that day. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Travis was born in Walnut township, near Peru, on Feb. 2, 1859, the son of Martin and Lavina Travis. He was reared and spent all his life, with the exception of eight years in Kansas, in this community.

He was married, on Feb. 25, 1885, to Eliza Alice Bird. They were the parents of seven children. One son died in infancy, and a daughter at the age of 7 years.

At an early age he united with the Methodist church and remained in that faith until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife; five children: D. E. Travis and Mrs. Ethel Sawhill of Truro, W. B. Travis and E. M. Travis of Winterset, and D. C. Travis of Peru; a sister, Mrs. Eva Foster of Great Bend, Kan.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Peru Methodist church Monday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Machlan. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Heart Attack Is Fatal To Long Time Resident of Peru. Funeral Sat.

T. H. Travis, father of Don Travis chairman of the county AAA committee, was found dead at his home in Peru last Saturday afternoon by his wife upon returning from Winterset. Death is believed to have been caused by a heart attack.

Mr Travis who was 80 years old, had been a resident of Peru his entire lifetime with the exception of a few years he lived in Kansas.

Thomas Hamlin Travis, son of Martin B. and Lavina C. Travis, was born in Walnut township near Peru on February 2, 1859. He was united in marriage to Eliza Alice Bird on February 25, 1885 and to this union were born seven children. One son died in infancy and one daughter died at the age of seven years. At an early age he was united with the Methodist church and remained a member throughout his lifetime.

Those who survive are, his wife; five children, D. E. Travis and Mrs. Ethel Sawhill of Truro; W. B. Travis and E M. Travis of Winterset and D. C. Travis of Peru; one sister, Mrs. Eva Foster of Great Bend, Kansas; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the Methodist church in Peru, conducted by the Rev. J. H. Machlan. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
