L. M. DELAPLAIN DIED HERE SUNDAY

Had Served As Postmaster At Peru 22 Years; Had Retired Recently

L. M. Delaplain, for 22 years the postmaster at Peru, died Sunday at his home in Winterset where he had lived since failing health had forced him to relinquish his office. He was 75 years of age and had been an invalid for some time prior to his death. He had lived here with his daughter, Mrs. George Shade, for the past year.

Mr. Delaplain had lived practically all his life in and near Peru.

He was born in Licking county, Ohio, Oct. 6, 1864, the son of Owen and Jane Clayton Delaplain. As a small child he came to the Peru neighborhood with his parents.

He was married on Dec. 23, 1885, to Angela Foster. They were the parents of one daughter, Grizelle, who lived little more than a year. His wife died in 1888. He was again married, Sept. 25, 1890 to Luella Kirk. They were the parents of three children, two of whom, Merlan and Bessie, died in infancy.

Mr. Delaplain was a member of the Christian church while that denomination was active in Peru. He was also affiliated with the Modern Woodman and Yeoman lodges.

Surviving the deceased are his wife; his daughter, Mrs. George Shade; three grandchildren, Mrs. Clark Dowler, Dale Cosand and Evelyn Shade; three great grandchildren; a brother, S. D. Delaplain of Jefferson; and two sisters, Mrs. F. E. Lutter and Mrs. J. E. Manz, both of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Peru Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. H. Machian. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

The pallbearers were: P. F. Beeler, Lawrence Simmons, Byron Fenimore, Clyde Shearer, Earl Hiatt and A. L. Nichols.

L. M. DELAPLAIN DIES AT AGE 75

Was Postmaster At Peru For 22 Years. Funeral Was Held Tuesday.

L. M. Delaplain, postmaster of Peru for more than 22 years, died Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Shade, in Winterset where he had made his home the past year. Delaplain who was 75 years of age, retired from his position in Peru about two years ago because of ill health.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock In the Methodist church in Peru conducted by the Rev. J. H. Mahlan. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

Lawyel M. Delaplain, the son of Owen and Jane Clayton Delaplain, was born in Licking county, Ohio, Oct. 6, 1864, and died at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 20 days. He came to Iowa with his parents as a small child and has since made his home in Peru and vicinity.

He was married to Angelia Foster Dec. 23, 1885, and they were the parents of one child, Grizelle, who lived little more than a year. His wife died in 1888 and he was again married to Luella Kirk Sept. 25, 1890. To this union were born three children, Merlan and Bessie who died in infancy and Vava Shade who survived.

He was a member of the Christian church in Peru, and a member of the Modern Woodman and Yeoman lodges.

The surviving relatives are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. George Shade; three grandchildren, Marian Dowler, Dale Cosand and Evelyn Shade; three great grandchildren; one brother, S. D. Delaplain of Jefferson; two sisters, Mrs. F. E. Lutter and Mrs. J. E. Manz of Des Moines.
