Mrs. W. C. Steele, former Winterset resident, died at the Kossuth county hospital in Algona, Tuesday, Nov. 14th, after an illness of six days, with flu and complications. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:30 at the Algona Methodist church, and burial was made in the Riverview cemetery.

Mrs. Steele's maiden name was Winnie Maud Humphrey. She was born December 15, 1873 at Elmira, N. Y., the daughter of John N. and Henrietta Humphrey. Her father farmed and when she was nine, her mother died. She and her brother Charles then came to Winterset to live with an aunt and uncle. She attended the public schools at Winterset, and then the Iowa City conservatory of music, from which she was graduated.

Mr. and Mrs. Steele were married at Winterset, September 12, 1889, and lived in Greenfield until 1901, when they went to Algona where Mr. Steele has since operated a clothing store.

One son, William, Jr., survives, as well as her brother, Charles, an attorney at Charles City.
