Wednesday, March 8, 1939Alpheus Anderson Slaughter was born in Dallas county, Iowa, Nov. 1, 1854 and departed this life Feb. 26, 1939 at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 26 days.
In 1887 he was united in marriage to Mary Beall. to this union were born three children: Mrs. Effie Cruikshank and Mrs. Jessie Ebersole of Pomona, Cal., and Arthur Slaughter of Wells, Minn.
In 1889 death claimed his wife and in 1894 he was united in marriage to Mary West.
To this union were born three children: Herbert Slaughter of Winterset, Nellie Patterson of Boone, and Harold Slaughter of Pomona, Cal. He also leaves to mourn his loss his wife, one sister, Mrs. Anna Haworth of Sacramento, Cal., a brother, Noah Slaughter of Stockton, Cal., fourteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren. He was in good health to the last, death resulting from a heart attack.
The greater part of his life he lived in Boone county. He passed away at the home of his son Herbert at Winterset.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Minburn Thursday, March 2nd, being conducted by Oscar Tesdahl and Frank Walters both of Boone.
The pall bearers were Paul, Luther, Newell and Joe Slaughter, Richard Bever and Glen Clark, all nephews and great nephews of the deceased. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Luellan and Marcial Luellen and Guy Nourse. Miss Grace Anderson sang a solo.
Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery at Minburn.
