JAS. A. DENNEY OF MACKSBURG PASSES

Grand River Township Man Had Lived in County Since 1880

James A. Denney, of near Macksburg, a resident of Madison county for 59 years, died at his home three miles northwest of Macksburg last Thursday. He was 89 years of age.

Mr. Denney was born in Brown county, Ohio, on May 25, 1849. His early life was spent there, but after the death of his parents, he and his older sister came to Iowa in 1880, settling in Macksburg.

On Oct. 1, 1882, he was married to Sarah J. Brown of Macon, O. They moved to a farm three miles northwest of Macksubrg, where he lived for more than 40 years. In 1921, because of failing health, he and Mrs. Denney moved to Winterset. Several years ago they returned to the home place, now operated by their son, Ray Denney.

Mr. Denney was a long-time member of the Methodist church where he attended services as long as his health permitted.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Myrtle Busch of Winterset; the son, Ray Denney of Macksburg; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. One daughter, Elva Lou, died at the age of 16 years.

Funeral services were conducted last Saturday from the Macksburg Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.

JAMES A. DENNY DIED THURSDAY

Funeral services for James A. Denny, 89, who died at his home near Macksburg Thursday of last week, were held Saturday afternoon, at the Methodist church in Macksburg, conducted by the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.

James Allen Denny, son of William and Jane Wisbey Denny, was born in Brown county, Ohio, May 23, 1849. He was the last surviving member of a family of eight children, two girls and six boys. His early life was spent in Brown county, Ohio. After the death of his parents, he and his older sister came to Iowa in 1880, residing in Macksburg.

He was united in marriage to Sarah J. Brown of Macon, Ohio, October 1, 1882. After his marriage he moved to a farm three miles northwest of Macksburg where he lived for more than 40 years. In 1921, because of failing health he and Mrs. Danny moved to Winterset. He often returned to the farm and spent much time there. Finally he returned to live with his son, Ray, on the home place.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Myrtle Busch of Winterset; one son Lyman Ray Denny of Macksburg; three granddaughters, Lois Denny Smith, Arlene Denny Smith, and Sarah Louise Busch; two grandsons, Paul Raymond Busch, Roy L. Busch and two great grandsons, Thomas and Morris Smith. One daughter, Eva Lou died at the age of 16.
