LOUIE JOHN WILKIE

Louie John Wilkie, the second son of Fred and Augusta Wilkie, was born July 18, 1881 at Postville, Clayton County, Iowa. He departed this earthly life February 5, 1919 at his home near Earlham, at the age of 37 years, 6 months and 18 days.

He moved with his parents to Earlham at the age of 12 years, and this neighborhood has since been his home. He was educated in our schools at Earlham, where he made the acquaintance of Lydia Mae Riser to whom he was married April 18, 1906. To this union five children were born, La Verne, aged 11 years, Marian Augusta, aged 9 years, Bernice Edna, aged 6 years, Esther Mae, aged 4 years and Gladys Helen, aged 7 months, who with their mother are left to wonder why such a bitter sorrow should come to them at this time when the loving help and guidance of the departed are needed so badly. Louie was a model husband and father. His greatest pleasure was when his day's work was done, to gather his children around him for an evening of pleasure and fun.

Besides his wife and children he leaves a mother, brother, half brother, hosts of relatives and friends. His father and one brother preceded him to the Heavenly home, where now he awaits the coming of those he loved on earth.

Louie Wilkie was a consistent Christian during the larger portion of his life. He joined the church at Postville, Iowa at the age of 12 and united with the Presbyterian Church at Earlham January 14, 1901.

He was a member in good standing of Madison Lodge Number 568, A.F. & A.M., of Earlham, Iowa receiving his initiatory degree January 31, 1905 and attaining full membership May 30, 1905.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Friday afternoon, Feb. 7, conducted by the pastor Rev. Howard. The Masonic fraternity participated in this service, and laid their brother at rest in the Earlham Cemetery with the impressive ritual of the Order.
