January 1921WASHINGTON FRANCIS
Washington Francis was born near Ithaca, Dark Co. Ohio, on Feb. 21st, 1835. He died at Earlham, Ia. Dec. 30th, 1920, aged 85 years, 10 months and 10 days.
After moving with his parents to Iowa in the spring of 1855 he formed the acquaintance of Sarah Catherine Newman, whom he married on Aug. 30th, 1865. To this union were born four sons and one daughter who are: Bruce, of Minneapolis, Minn., Owen, who died in early childhood, Carrie of Earlham and John and Will of Alberta, Canada.
Since leaving the old homestead near Penn Center he has traveled much, spending winters in California, a season in Colorado, a few summers with the sons in Canada and Dakota, and the last years with Milo Brown near Earlham.

Wash Francis died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milo Brown, Friday. Mr. Francis was a Penn township resident for a number of years, and one of the early pioneers. He was 83 years old and as we look about us we see very few of the old pioneers left.

The funeral of Wash Francis, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milo Brown on Friday night, was held at the Presbyterian Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev., Howard.
