MORTUARY

Frank Carson Bates, one of 12 children born to Matthew and Cynthia Bates, in Story county, Iowa, Feb. 8, 1866, passed away at his home in Macksburg, Feb. 19, 1939, at the age of 73 years and 11 days.

He was united in marriage to Sophronia Eivins, Dec. 23, 1891 near Creston, Iowa. To this union were born seven children, Ole E. of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Goldie Hatfield, Lorimor, Ia., Vern B., Macksburg, Ia., Samuel E., Orient, Ia., Mrs. Edith Delaplain, Jefferson, Ia., Lloyd C., and F. Rolland at home.

He became a member of the Odd Fellow lodge at Macksburg March 28, 1896.

He was a charter member of the Rebekah lodge at New Plymouth, Idaho, and later transferred his membership to Macksburg. He faithfully attended both lodges and was devoted to the lodge work.

They moved to Nebraska in 1900, then to Idaho in 1902, then to Minnesota in 1913 and to Madison county the following years. They resided on a farm until two years ago when they moved to Macksburg.

To mourn his departure are his wife, and seven children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Shattuck of Springview, Neb., Mrs. I. N. Eivins of Macksburg. Two brothers Elrie of Springview, Neb., and Austin Bates of Minnesota, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1939, at two o'clock conducted by Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Interment was made in the Moon cemetery.
