Was Assistant Postmaster in That Community Since 1922
Macksburg-(Special)-Ely Tad Smith, assistant postmaster at Macksburg since 1922, died last Thursday. He was 73 years of age.
Mr. Smith's home had been in this community since 1919. He was a native of Wellington, Ill., where he was born April 11, 1865. He came to Iowa in 1895, locating at Richmond Center, where he lived until coming to Macksubrg.
He was married near Wellington, on Feb. 17, 1887, to Elizabeth Mowbray. They were the parents of five daughters.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Macksburg Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife; the five daughters, Mrs. Beulah Butts, Mrs. Theda Farwell and Mrs. Vira Fisher, all of Creston, and Mrs. Vera Moffitt and Mrs. Irene Gibbs of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the Macksburg Methodist church Sunday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
