Wednesday, March 13, 1912Death of Dr. G. W. Miller
With surprise and sorrow the many friends of the Miller family heard the announcement of the death of Dr. George W. Miller of Des Moines on last Thursday afternoon. The family were pioneer settlers of the county and for many years, Dr. George was one of the best dental practitioners Madison county has ever had. In 1880 he moved to Des Moines. At once, he became prominent in professional circles, especially as founder of the Drake Dental School of which he remained the head till 1902. He was a member of the Pioneer A.F. and A.M., the Elks, Yeomen, Woodmen and Odd Fellow lodges and of the Iowa State Dental society.
The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Victoria hotel by Dr. Geo. Scott of the First Methodist church, assisted by Hon. Henry Wallace. The Masons had charge of the services at Woodland cemetery. Unnumbered friends of Des Moines united with those of Winterset and vicinity regret his death and extend sympathy to the aged mother and family.
