Bert Eldon Blosseer was born in Madison county, Iowa, Dec. 8, 1878 and died at his home near Patterson, Oct. 24, 1917, at the age of 38 years, 10 months and 16 days.
He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Blosser, who are among Madison county's well known oldest settlers. Bert was united in marriage to Maud Simpson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Simpson of Winterset, in Osceola Feb. 2, 1902. To this union one son was born, Vance, now 14 years of age, who mourns the loss of a most kind and indulgent father.
Bert was converted 14 years ago, under the pastorship of Rev. M. J. Rarick and united with the M. E. church in Patterson immediately afterwards. Since that time he has continued growing in the Christian faith that made his influence felt by all who were associated with him. He will be greatly missed, both in his attendance and loyal support of the church.
His is the first death in a family of several children, all grown to maturity. Those who mourn his untimely departure are the wife and son, father, mother, two brothers: Frank and Noah, of Patterson; and four sisters: Mrs. Graham Bird of Des Moines, Mrs. Dennis Pace, Mrs. Ernest Guilliams of Patterson; Mrs. Deloss Grout of Winterset, besides numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Patterson on Friday, Oct. 26th at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. M. J. Rarick of Orient, assisted by Rev. L. F. Woolson of Patterson. The remains were laid to rest in Montpelier cemetery.
