KILLED BY GREAT WESTERN TRAIN

Jack Seward of Walnut Township Run Down By Great Western, Was Walking on Track

Jack Seward of Walnut township was run over and killed while walking on the railroad track on last Thursday afternoon. Seward had attended the Sheets public sale, and started to walk home on the railroad track. He was facing the wind and with cap over ears and defective hearing, failed to hear the signal of the train, which was running down grade at the rate of forty miles per hour. He was thrown a distance of several rods in the air and to one side of the right of way. The accident took place on the old Dudney farm, occupied by Wess Hogg. Mrs. Hogg witnessed the accident and was the first to reach Seward. Both legs were broken and death was instantaneous. Mrs. Hogg telephoned to Peru and the fireman and engineer of the train knew nothing of the accident until informed at Peru of what had happened.

Mr. Seward, who was a man about middle age, leaves a wife and family. Mrs. Seward is a daughter of the Jos. Berry, an early resident in that vicinity.
