Young Jefferson Township Farmer Dies After Brief Illness

Van Meter (Special) May 2.--

Fred Koehler of Jefferson township passed away about five-thirty o'clock Thursday afternoon, April 27 at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines, after only a few days illness of general septicemia. He was taken to the hospital on Monday.

Frederick Joseph Koehler, son of Otto F. and Etha B. Koehler, was born September 1, 1896 near Winterset, and passed away on April 27, 1939, aged 42 years, 7 months and 26 days.

About twelve years ago Mr. Koehler had a serious illness from which he never fully recovered. On April 21st he was again stricken, and although everything was done that could be to save his life, he grew worse and on Thursday evening death came.

He was a member of the North River United Brethren church.

He leaves to mourn, his mother, one sister, Mrs. Cecil Currin and two nephews of Collingswood, N. J., also a number of uncles and aunts and a host of friends.

The funeral which was one of the largest in the history of the North River church, was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with the Rev. E. A. elliott of Des Moines in charge, assisted by the Rev. C. L. Windsor of Van Meter. The pallbearers were Ruthven Forester of Moline, Ill., Alvin Alexander, George Koehler, Raymond Alexander, Ward Wood and Joe Alexander all of Winterset. Burial was made in the North River cemetery by the side of his father who passed away about thirty years ago.

Among those who were here from a distance for the funeral were Mrs. Nora Banker of Hollywood, Cal., Mrs. Raymond Sayre of Ackworth, Mrs. and Mrs. Walter Cruthers, and Mr. and Mrs. John Alexander all of Gravity, and Mrs. and Mrs. Alfred Currin and sons Charles and Cedric of Collingswood, New Jersey.
