MORUTARY

Albert Wesley, son of Noah Morgan and Jane Randall King, was born Jan. 5, 1854, near Sandridge, not far from Petersburg, in Menard county, Ill., and passed away at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines, Sept. 7, 1939, aged 85 years, eight months. While he was in very poor health, yet the direct cause of his death was heart failure brought on by the shock of a fall which resulted in a broken hip the day before his death. His family being strong Union sympathizers, were almost compelled to leave their Illinois home following the Civil war, as that part of the country was a hot bed of rebellion headed by rebel leaders. Accordingly his parents came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Adel, later buying a large farm near the Elm Grove church in Scott township and is still owned by the heirs of the family.

On Feb. 7, 1875, the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Samantha V. Sayre of Norwalk, and to this union four children were born, the eldest, a daughter, dying in infancy, and the older son, Dr. C. A. King of Boone, passed away in January of 1935. The remaining children are Mrs. Mabel Arnold of St. Charles, with whom he made his home, and Milton King of Escondido, Cal., who had only a short time ago, spent a week with his father. He was the youngest of a family of ten children, and the last to go. His wife preceded him in death in August of 1933, after celebrating their Golden Wedding on Feb. 7, 1925.

He was a member of the home department of the Methodist Sunday school and while his health would not permit him to attend church services, yet he never failed to prepare his Sunday school lesson down to the smallest detail. Only those who knew him best realized his kindly nature and devotion to his family. Beside his children he leaves one grandson, two granddaughters, and two great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon in charge of the Rev. Lucus Smith, assised by Rev. Baird of the United Presbyterian church. Rev. J. F. Arnold, with burial in the King cemetery.
