JOHN VASEY KILLED AS CAR OVERTURNS

St. Charles Youth Crushed Under Machine, Dies Hour Later

John Vasey, 19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vasey of near St. Charles, was killed Sunday evening when his roadster overturned and pinned him under the wreckage.

The fatal accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on county road E, four miles northwest of St. Charles. Vasey was driving east, and at the rim of a hill met a car driven by T. L. Moore of Winterset. The two cars side-swiped, and Vasey lost control of his roadster. It plunged from the road and rolled over, coming down on top of him. He was badly crushed and the car was smashed. He was brought to the Winterset hospital where he died about an hour later.

The driver of the other car was uninjured, but Mrs. Moore, who was riding with him, was shaken up and bruised. Young Vasey was driving alone.

St. Charles Youth Killed In Auto Collision Sunday

Johnny Vasey, 19 Dies In Hospital

Johnny Vasey 19 years old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Vasey of near St. Charles died in the Winterset hospital Sunday evening of injuries suffered in an automobile accident a few minutes earlier.

Vasey who was alone when driving east on the old St. Charles-Winterset road about four miles northwest of St. Charles, collided with a car driven by T. L. Moore of Winterset on the crest of a hill. Vasey’s car, a light 1929 model roadster, rolled over one and one-half times, throwing him from the machine. It came to rest across his body.

Dr. I. K. Sayre of St. Charles was called and rushed the injured youth to the Winterset hospital where he died shortly after his arrival. Death was attributed to internal injuries.

Moore and his wife who was with him, were not injured seriously. Moore’s auto was damaged slightly while Vasey’s was a total wreck. Charles Neidt, deputy sheriff who was called to the scene, said Vasey apparently came over the top of the hill on the main travelled lane of the dirt road and was unable to pull far enough to the right in time to miss the Moore car.
