Edith Elizabeth Erp was born Dec. 22, 1881 and died May 2, 1916, being 34 years, 4 months and 12 days old. She was born, and lived until her marriage, in Madison county, Iowa.
She was married to J. W. Weidner in 1906. The wedding was solemnized by Rev. Matheny of Winterset.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her aged parents, her faithful husband, five sisters and two brothers. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Erp, live in Van Meter; Charley Erp at Van Meter, Joseph Erp, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Lucy Malone, Onega, Kansas; Mrs. Effie Poffinbarger, Council Bluffs; Mrs. Fannie Johnson, Earlham; Mrs. Myrtle Broker, Van Meter; Anna Clearwater and Otis Erp, Booneville.
Before Edith died she called the family about the bedside and told them she was going. She said, “I am ready to go.” She exclaimed “I see the City with its beautiful streets, beautiful flowers are blooming there, I see Jesus”, and mentioned some of her friends that had gone on before. She said “Do no weep for me, I have only a little way to go. Listen, I hear the angels singing”. She wanted us all to meet her in Heaven. As she held up her arms toward Heaven, she said “Don’t look so sad, I am ready to go”, and in a few minutes she was with her God.
The funeral services were held at the United Brethren church in Van Meter. The pastor, Rev. N. F. Hicks, preached the sermon from the text found in St. John 12-32. The church was filled. The choir sang very touchingly. Her body was laid to rest in the Van Meter cemetery.
