MELVIN LOW Dies In Clanton Creek

Madison county's first drowning fatality of the year occurred Sunday with the death of Melvin Low, 11-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Low of near Peru.

The boy was drowned in a deep hole in Clanton creek while wading with his sister, Eileen, his brother, Lawrence, and the latter's wife, Dorothy. The body was found in about eight feet of water. He had evidently fallen in the deep hole without attracting the attention of the others. When he was missed, his companions started a search, but the body was not found until after the arrival of Willard Mease, who could swim.

Melvin Henry Low was the son of Henry and Hazle Low, and was born near Macksburg, March 24, 1924. He spent his entire life in Madison county, where he attended the public schools. Last year he was the honor student of his school.

In addition to his parents, the boy leaves a sister, Eileen, and a brother, Lawrence.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset
