MRS. JESSIE KING DIED LAST WEEK

Would Have Been 91 Years of Age on Day Following Her Death

Mrs. Jessie King, one of Winterset oldest residents, died here last Wednesday, Aug. 10, the day preceding her ninety-first birthday. She was one of the Winterset nonagenarians honored during the Centennial.

Mrs. King was a native of Cambridge, O., where she was born Aug. 11, 1858, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Sims Klingman. When she was 9 years old, in the fall of 1867, she came with her parents to Madison county. Her early life was spent in the Worthington community.

She was married to Wallace King on Feb. 26, 1885. They established their home in Winterset. From that time until her death, her home remained in this community.

Mrs. King was the mother of three sons, Ray G. King of Winterset, Roy W. Kind of Glendale, Calif., and Harry C. King, who died at Jefferson in 1948. Her husband died in 1924.

She had united with the Worthington Methodist church in early life, when services were still being held in a school house there. Throughout her life she remained active in church work. She was also a long-time member of the Women's Christian Temperance union here.

In addition to her two sons, she leaves seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Cora Shepherd of Anoka, Minn., and Mrs. Ella McDonald of Winterset.

Funeral services were hled Friday from the Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Glen Parrot, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
