Laura Kail was born on the Kail farm southwest of Earlham September 14, 1884, and died February 10, 1971 at Garden Grove, California, at the age of 86 years.
After her graduation from Earlham high school in 1902, she taught in the rural schools of Penn township. Later she graduated from Highland Park College, Des Moines, and for two years taught at Walnut, Iowa. She then attended Capital City Commercial College and was employed by a Des Moines insurance firm for several years. She also worked at the Citizens State Bank in Earlham.
In 1920 she was married to Clifford A. Stanley and with her husband owned and operated the Wichita Type Shop at Wichita, Kansas, for many years.
After Mr. Stanley’s death in 1943 she went to Portland, Oregon, to be near her sister, Mrs. B. N. Jewett. Six years ago she moved with the Jewetts to California. For the past two years she had lived at the Willows Retirement Home at Garden Grove.
Like other members of her family, she united with the First Presbyterian church of Earlham at an early age. While working in Earlham, she organized and taught a Sunday School class of teenage girls. Mrs. Stanley was the youngest daughter and last remaining member of the family of Henry L. and Nancy Brant Kail.
She is survived by six nieces and two nephews; a sister-in-law, Mrs. E. E. Kail, Fayette, Idaho; and a brother-in-law, B. N. Jewett, Long Beach, California.
