BERTHA RISER IMBODEN

Mrs. Bertha Riser Imboden, the daughter of John Riser and Maria Hunziker Riser, was born on March 8, 1881 at Clermont, but has lived in Madison county for the past 69 years.

Mrs. Imboden was united in marriage with Joseph Frederick Imboden on April 19, 1905 at Earlham. Mr. Imboden died on March 10, 1958.

Mrs. Imboden was a former school teacher and had attended Drake University, and was a home maker. She was a member of the First Methodist church in Winterset, the Women’s Society of Christian Service, and the Columbian Club. Mrs. Imboden was an active worker in the Sunday School and church at Penn Center during her residence there.

After a short illness Mrs. Imboden was taken to the Madison Memorial hospital on Tuesday, April 27, and died the next morning, April 28, 1971, at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 20 days.

Mrs. Imboden was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Surviving her are two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Wilkie of Madrid, and Mrs. Evangeline Gilbert of Earlham. She is also survived by children, Iris Smith of Lorimor, Clifford Imboden of Earlham, Erma Thrailkill of Macksburg, Ona Nelson of Nevada, and Richard of Whittier, California, and 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Imboden will be greatly missed not only by his family but by her many friends she has made in this vicinity.
