Wednesday, October 5, 1949ALICE WHITWORTH OF MACKSBURG DIES
Mrs. Alice Whitworth, long-time resident of Macksburg, died at her home there early Tuesday. She was 85 years of age. She was the widow of the late George Whitworth of Macksburg, and is survived by two sons and three daughters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. this Thursday from the Macksburg Methodist church. A more complete story will be available for publication next week.

Native of Green County, Had Lived at Macksburg Since 1888
Mrs. Alice Whitworth, whose death Oct. 4 was reporated here last week, had been a resident of the Macksburg community since 1888.
Mrs. Whitworth was a native of Greene county, where she was born Aug. 16, 1864, a daughter of Jackson and Louise Smith. In 1880 she was married to Edward N. Terry. They were the parents of three children, Mate, Elizabeth and Freddie, who died in infancy. Mr. Terry died in 1886.
Feb. 2, 1888 she was married to George Whitworth, and they moved to a farm southeast of Macksburg. They were the parents of three children, Elvie, Orah and Earle. In 1910, the family moved into Macksburg, where Mr. Whitworth's death occurred in 1921.
Mrs. Whitworth was a member of the Rebekah lodge, Woman's Relief corps and Methodist church.
She is survived by five children, Mrs. Lee Cochran of Lorimor, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall of Grimes, Elvie Whitworth of Dallas Center, Mrs. Leonard Griswold of Des Moines and Earle Whitworth of Macksburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a brother John T. Smith of Spokane, Wash.
