Life-Long Resident There Passed Last Wednesday at Winterset
Ransom A. Ballard, a life-long resident of the Macksburg community, died last Wednesday, Aug. 10, in Winterset. He was 79 years of age.
Mr. Ballard was the eighth child of Samuel and Martha Ballard, and was born Oct. 4, 1870, near Macksburg. He was married to Carrie Ham on Oct. 4, 1906. He had purchased a farm two and a half miles southwest of Macksburg. He and his wife lived on that farm until her death in November of 1915, and he remained there continuously until he became ill this spring and was taken to Winterset.
He had the distinction of being one of those who helped build the old West Branch Methodist church, of which he later became a member, as long as that church existed. He later united with the Macksburg Methodist church which his parents helped organize in 1872.
Nearest surviving relatives are a nephew, Lyle Whitworth of Macksburg; and two nieces, Mrs. Bertha Clark of Creston and Mrs. Opal Slaybaugh of California.
Funeral services were held from the Macksburg Methodist church in charge of the Rev. K. E. Nesbitt of Murray. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
