ELIZABETH WELCH DIES AT 93 YEARS

Ranks of 90-Year-Old Group in Winterset Reduced Second Time

Mrs. Elizabeth Welch, life-long resident of Madison county, died at her home in Winterset Wednesday, Oct. 26, after a short illness. She was 93 years of age.

Mrs. Welch was one of the Winterset nonagenarians honored at the Centennial celebration here last July. She was the second of that group to be called by death since the observance.

She was the former Elizabeth Ann Hann, daughter of Hugh and Sarah Hann, and was born in Madison county Sept. 11, 1856. She was married Feb. 22, 1876, to Sanson H. Welch. After spending one year in Lincoln township, they moved to a farm in Scott township where they lived until moving to Winterset in 1904. They were the parents of five children, three of whom preceded the mother in death. Mr. Welch died in 1930.

She had been a member of the Methodist church since early in life.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Cora J. Schoenenberger of Winterset; and her son, Frank E. Welch of Winterset; in addition to eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Richards Funeral home in charge of the Rev. Glen Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. Paul Hann of Knoxville. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
