ELIZABETH KIERNAN RITES HELD TUESDAY

Long-Time Madison County Resident Died Friday in California

Mrs. Elizabeth Kiernan, a resident of Madison county for 69 years, died in Los Angeles, Calif., Sept. 23, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John A. Thompson. She was 84 years of age.

Mrs. Kiernan was born in Madison county May 21, 1865. She was the former Elizabeth Ryan, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ryan of Crawford township. On Sept. 8, 1891, she was married to James Kiernan of Jefferson township. Their home was in that community until the death of Mr. Kiernan in 1930. About 15 years ago she moved to Florida, where she spent 10 years before moving to California.

She is survived by two sons, John J. Kiernan of Jefferson township and Thomas Kiernan of St. Petersburg, Fla., four daughters, Sister Juanita of the Order of St. Francis at LaCrosse, Wisc., Mrs. Thompson of Los Angeles, Mrs. Lenora Schulte of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. Frances Doty of Lexington, Neb. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from St. Patrick's Catholic church in the Irish settlement with requiem mass celebrated by the pastor, the Rev. John Reynolds. Burial was made in the St. Patrick's cemetery.
