Joy Ann Carlson, 69, of Red Oak died Feb. 13, 2007, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 19, at the Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, also in Nyman.
Joy Carlson was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Red Oak to Richard and Blanche (Jackson) Burnison and attended school in Coburg, graduating in 1955. On Sept. 4, 1955, she was united in marriage to Richard Carlson. They resided in Alabama while Richard was in the military, then moved to Creston and later Red Oak, where they have lived most of their lives. Joy worked at Vista Gardens Care Center and Nishna Productions, as well as working in the home health field. She was a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Carlson; and a sister, Lois Garwood.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Red Oak; three daughters, Cynthia Tucker of Winterset, Susan Geer of Stanton, Iowa, and Carrie Rinehart of Anamosa; two sons, Richard D. Carlson Jr. of St. Cloud, Minn., and Stephen Carlson of Red Oak; five sisters, Karen Pridemore of Florissant, Mo., Phyllis Roseland of Springfield, Neb., Sandra Currie of Essex, Linda Malerbi of Omaha, Neb., and Janet Vallone of Clearwater, Fla.; three brothers, Richard Burnison of Stanton, Neb., Lowell Burnison of Red Oak, and Larry Burnison of Lawton, Okla., and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Cass County Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Fremont Lutheran Church in Nyman.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak.
