Aubrey Simmerman, 97, of Truro died of pneumonia July 6, 2002, at Clarke County Hospital Extended Care in Osceola.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 today at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery.
Aubrey Simmerman was born April 15, 1905, in Clarke County to George Alva and Lizzie (Kirk) Simmerman. He attended country schools in Clarke County and Iowa State for two terms. He married Sally Anderson in 1926. In 1954, he married Freda Cifton Woods. A lifetime resident of Clarke County, Aubrey had been a farmer. He was a past member of the Lorimor Masons, Truro Lions Club, Osceola Eages and Madison Chapel Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.
He is survived by four sons, Malcom Simmerman (wife Carolyn) of Conroe, Texas, Jerry Simmerman (wife Lillian) of Meadview, Ariz., Don Simmerman (wife Bonnie) of Truro and Michael Simmerman (wife Johanna) of Falcon, Colo.; two daughters, Audrey Thomas (husband Bud) of Murray and Marilyn Fitch (husband James) of Fairfax, Va.; three stepsons, Doyle Woods of Dallas Center, Darrel Woods (wife Barb) of St. Charles and Butch Woods (wife Suzy) of Afton; a sister, Mary Kirby of Perry; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Simmerman and Genivieve Simmerman, both of Murray, and Neva Brown of Milwaukie, Ore.; two brothers-in-law, Archie Larson of Osage City, Kan., and John Goodrich of Mena, Ark.; 20 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
