Madison County Farmer in Failing Health for Some Time
John W. Casper, prominent Union township resident for many years, died at his home north of Winterset Monday, October 17, after an extended period of failing health. He was 77 years of age, and had been seriously ill for a week.
Mr. Casper lived on a farm in Union township, since coming here with his parents in 1882, until last spring, when he moved to a new home north of Winterset.
He was a native of Silver City, Idaho where he was born Nov. 7, 1871, the son of John and Hannah Casper. As a young man he was married to Mary Barrows, who preceded him in death. They were the parents of a son, Dwight Casper, and a daughter, Mrs. Willis Martin, both of Winterset.
In 1914 he was married to Mrs. Nellie Rose. They were the parents of a son, Robert Casper, of Winterset.
In addition to the three children, he leaves his wife; two step-daughters, Mrs. Perle Mercer of Charleston, W. Va., and Mrs. Harriett McCaughan of Spokane, Wash. Three of his six grandchildren live in Madison County. They are Robert, Dorothy Sue and John Casper.
Funeral services were held this Wednesday from Anderson's home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. I. E. Linkletter of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery.
