ELBERT B. WEEKS CRUSHED TO DEATH

Pickup Pins Retired Farmer Against Steel Gate at Macksburg

Elbert B. Weeks, well-known retired farmer was crushed to death by his own truck last Friday evening in the driveway of his home in Macksburg.

Weeks had driven his pickup into the driveway and stopped. He climbed out and walked around in front of it to open the gate to his barn lot. The pickup had started rolling forward, pinning him against the iron-pipe framework at the gate. The truck was loaded with corn.

Indications are that the accident occurred about 6 p.m. Week’s body, held in an upright position against the gate; was found about 11:15 p.m. by Raymond Stoddard, janitor at the Macksburg school, was passing by and stopped to investigate. County Coroner Paul Eggleston of Winterset was called. After investigation he reported death as accidental.

Mr. Weeks was 79 years of age. He was born in Madison county, Nov. 24, 1877, and had spent his life in this community. In recent years he had been making his home with his sister, Almyra Nicholson in Macksburg.

He leaves one son, Samuel E. Weeks of near Macksburg; a brother, W F. Weeks of Loveland, Colo.; and two sisters, Mrs. Clara Smith of Winterset and Mrs. Nicholson of Macksburg.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. S. C. Pickens, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in Pleasant View cemetery in Webster township.
