Death of George Stultz

George Harvey Stultz, for many years a resident of Winterset, died at his home here early Tuesday morning. He was 70 years old. Death came after a fatal illness of two weeks which climaxed several years of failing health.

George Stultz was a citizen of Winterset since 1897. For many years he operated a livery business here. He was born January 25, 1858, on a farm located where the town of Story City now stands. In 1883, he was married to Agnes James, who died in 1895. In 1900 he married Priscilla James, a cousin of his first wife.

Mr. Stultz is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Oren Shaw of Chico, California; two children by his first wife, Fred Stultz of Britton, South Dakota and Mrs. Frank Cummins of Peru; five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the Ramsey - Richards funeral home. Burial will be made at Nevada, Iowa.

G. H. Stultz

George Harvey Stultz was born in Story county on a farm which was comprised of the land which is now the site of Story City, January 25, 1858. He grew to manhood in the community of his birth and was there united in marriage in 1883 with Agnes James. Two children were born to this union. The children are Mrs. Frank Cummins of Peru and Fred Stultz of Britton, South Dakota.

Mrs. Stultz died in 1895. Two years later Mr. Stultz came to Winterset and here for many years operated a livery business. For the past 19 years he has been retired. In 1930 he was married to Priscilla James of Portland, Oregon, a cousin of the first Mrs. Stultz. For the past thirty-six years Mr. Stultz has been a resident of Winterset and had many friends on the community.

For the past two years Mr. Stultz has been afflicted with heart asthma. His death was sudden and unexpected however, as he had not been confined to his home at all. He drove his car down town on Monday and was in usual health condition. At ten o'clock that night he suffered a severe attack and passed away about three o'clock Tuesday morning.

Mr. Stultz was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church at Winterset, also a member of Evening Star lodge No. 43, A.F. & F.M. and of Eastern Star Chapter No. 180 of Winterset.

At his death he is survived by his wife and two children. There are five grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Abbie Shaw of Chico, California.

Funeral services were conducted at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home on Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church having charge. The body was taken to Nevada Friday Friday afternoon, where interment was made in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery.
