Della Emma McClure, daughter of James Robert Vanata McClure and Jemima Myrtle Paisley, was born November 23, 1889 in Wright Co., Iowa. She received her education in schools of Wright and Madison counties.
On September 2, 1918 she was united in marriage to Clarence Smith of Earlham. They made their home on the farm until 1955 when they moved to their home on Cherry Street.
They were parents of three children: Edwin of Earlham, Twila (Mrs. Robert J. Eagan) of Pocahontas, and Doris (Mrs. Francis E. Rutherford) of Churdan.
Della was an over 50 year member of the Earlham Methodist church and an over 50 year member of the Marguerite Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the WSCS, the Study and Social Club, Friendly Circle, and Three Link Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in April 1956. She is survived by her three children, 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; her brother, Will McClure of Winterset; and sister, Rosa Smith of Dexter, a large number of nieces and nephews and many friends.
The memorial service was held on Sunday, January 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the Earlham United Methodist church with the Rev. Ward Young conducting the service.
