S. A. ALEXANDER DIED ON TUESDAY

County Official Since 1944 Had Been in Failing Health Recently

S. A. Alexander, chairman of the Madison county board of supervisors, and a well known Jefferson township farmer for many years, died about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines.

Mr. Alexander had been in failing health for several years, but became critically ill only recently. He had been a patient at the hospital for several days.

Mr. Alexander was 70 years of age, and had spent his entire life in Madison county. He was born in Union township, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Alexander.

As a young man he was married to Nell McBride, whose death occurred about 10 years ago. He was later married to Esther Finley, and they were the parents of one child.

Mr. Alexander was elected to the Madison county board of supervisors in 1942 and assumed office Jan. 1, 1944. He was reelected in 1946 and would have completed two full terms in the office this December. During 1949 he had served as chairman of the board.

In addition to his wife and 4-year-old daughter, Esther Jean, he is survived by a brother, Fred Alexander of near Winterset; and three sisters, Mrs. Etha Koehler of Jefferson township, Mrs. Ada Schoen of Oregon, and Mrs. Eva Woods of Collins.

The body will remain at the Fisher funeral home in Van Meter until shortly after noon this Thursday. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Jefferson U. B. church, and burial will be made in the cemetery there. The county court house will be closed Thursday afternoon because of the services.

REV. ELLIOTT CONDUCTS S. A. ALEXANDER RITES

The Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines conducted funeral services for S. A. Alexander last Thursday at the United Brethren church in Jefferson township. The death of Mr. Alexander, Madison county supervisor board chairman occurred Oct. 25.

Music for the services was furnished by Oris Hubbard, soloist, accompanied by Mrs. O. W. Hubbard. Casket bearers were Robert Raymond, Mack Miles, Joe and Gene Alexander. Burial was made in the Jefferson cemetery.

S. A. Alexander, County Supervisor Died Tuesday

S. A. Alexander, chairman of the Madison county board of supervisors, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Tuesday about 5:30 a.m. He had been in failing health for some time. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Alexander had lived in Madison county all of his life. He farmed for many years in Jefferson township. For the last six years he has been a member of the board of supervisors.

He is survived by his wife and 4-year old daughter. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Jefferson U.B. church with burial in the cemetery there.
