DEATH OF P. E. GARST

Phillip E. Garst, son of John and Abasha Garst, was born in Clarke county, Iowa, Jan. 27, 1874, and died June 18, 1949, aged 75 years. He was married to Ida B. Jones on Nov. 27, 1894. With the exception of a few months, his entire life was spent in Clarke and Madison counties.

His life's work had many changes, farming, carpentry, barber and insurance. At the time of his death he was operating the locker plant at Truro. He was a member of the Christian church and of Ivy lodge No. 483 of the Masons, of which he was secretary for a number of years.

He is survived by his widow; and a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Richards of Chariton; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Edwards of Red Oak and Mrs. Beryl Lawrence of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held June 21 at the Kale funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Frederick Cooper of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Hartman cemetery.
