February 2, 1933Death of Isaac Porter
Resident, died Sunday, January 23, in Red Oak, the town in which he has made his home the past thirty years.
The Red Oak Express has the following to say concerning his death:
Following a prayer in which he commended his soul to God, asked forgiveness of his sins, and that men become more brotherly,Isaac Porter, 71, fell dead at a cottage prayer meeting held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank England 410 Nuckols street, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
Mr. Porter became interested in the evangelistic meetings held at the Salvation Army a few weeks ago and was converted. Being interested he was invited to a cottage prayer meeting at the England home Sunday afternoon. A woman at the gathering was called on to open the meeting with prayer. At the conclusion of her prayer, Mr. Porter, who had never been known to offer prayer in public, arose to his feet unsolicited and began praying. The words of his prayer surprised the large gathering because of its earnestness and well chosen words. With the word "Amen" Mr. Porter dropped dead. A heart attack is believed to have caused his death.
Isaac Porter was born at Winterset, Iowa, April 28, 1861, a son of James and Mary Porter. He was married in 1882 to Isapline Belle Moore of Butler, Mo. They came to Red Oak 30 years ago and have made Red Oak their home since. Besides his widow, he is survived by four daughters and one son, Ada Porter and Florence May Porter of Glenwood; Jesse Porter, Mrs. Earl Carpenter and Ira Porter of Red Oak and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Sellergren Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Ira E. Carney of the Christian church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
