George Wilson Davis, son of Francis M. and Sarah E. Davis, was born on September 11, 1882 near Booneville, Iowa. He passed away May 4, 1972 at the Maple Lin Manor nursing home.

He grew to manhood near Booneville coming to Madison County where he did farm labor for several years.

He was married to Elizabeth A. Bane in October 1909 and they resided in Madison County after that. Five children were born to this union: Marion C., Mable L., Wayne E., Carl H., and O. Lavonna.

He was employed at the Marquette Cement Plant for 19 years. After retiring he did odd jobs about town.

He was a member of the Earlham Friends Church.

In 1964 he had a stroke and his health failed. For the past 11 months he has been a resident of the Maple Lin Manor.

He was preceded in death by one son Wayne E., his father and mother; two brothers and one sister.

He has left to mourn his passing his faithful wife Elizabeth; two daughters Mable Brooker of Buena Park, California and son-in-law Clarence, and O. Lavonna Vaughan of Creston, Iowa and son-in-law Clarence; Two sons Marion C. of Des Moines, Iowa and daughter-in-law Mary, and Carl H. of Roosevelt, Utah and daughter-in-law Lela; one granddaughter Patricia Morris of Earlham, five grandsons J. L. Whittington of Manhattan Beach, California, Howard Davis of Des Moines, Richard Davis of Altoona, Don Davis of Des Moines and Milton Vaughan of Des Moines; Three Step-granddaughters and four Step-grandsons; thirty great grandchildren whom he dearly loved having around him; One brother Eddie Davis of Menlo, Iowa; and a host of relatives and friends.

The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.

Services were held on Saturday, May 6, 1972, at 2:00 p.m. in the Friends Church in Earlham with Reverend John Baxter officiating. Casketbearers were John Vaughan, Vernon Morris, Charles Anker, Earl Anker, Wayne Koboldt and Eugene Conrad.

Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery. The Evans Funeral Home in Earlham was in charge of the arrangements.
