DR. F. O. RICHARDS DIED LAST WEEK

Former Winterset Physician Went to California in 1945

Dr. Frank O. Richards of Santa Ana, California, former Winterset doctor, died at the St. Joseph hospital at Orange, Calif., Tuesday, June 28th at the age of 79 years.

Born August 22, 1869, at Elk Grove, Wis., he was the son of John F. and Sarah Richards. He spent his childhood and youth in the vicinity of Platteville, Wis.

Dr. Richards was graduated from the medical college at the State University of Iowa in 1900 and began practicing in Winterset immediately thereafter. In 1904 he was married to Myrtle May English, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. C. J. English. He specialized in eye, ear, nose and throat, having a year in the New York Ophthalmic hospital in 1919-20. After completing 45 years of practice, in 1945, he retired and with Mrs. Richards moved to California.

He was a member of the Rotary club, the Masonic lodge, Knights of Pythias lodge, and the First Presbyterian church, all of Winterset. He was also county chairman of the Emergency Relief administration for some time, and county chairman of the American Red Cross here.

He is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Miss Ruth Richards and Mrs. Grace Trimble, both of Santa Ana, and three sisters, Mrs. Maude Wagner and Miss Evelyn Richards of Los Angeles, Calif., and Miss Ruth Richards of Platteville, Wis.

Funeral services were held in the Smith and Tuthill Funeral chapel, Thursday, June 30th, the Rev. O. Scott McFarland, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was made in the Fairhaven cemetery at Santa Ana.
