Death Angel Comes to Many Homes of This Community.

Death of Mrs. J. M. Eskew

Mrs. Elizabeth O. Eskew died at her home in Winterset last Friday, April 2nd. She had a stroke of paralysis last September, and she had been in failing health since then. However, about two weeks ago she had an attack of the flu, and her condition became gradually worse.

Mrs. Eskew came to this county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Owen, when she was a young lady seventeen years of age. Since then she has lived in this county, coming to Winterset, with her husband, John M. Eskew, in 1889. Mr. Eskew died November 29th last year. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton, at the Eskew home, Sunday afternoon, April 4th, at 1:30 o’clock. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Della Ferrall, Mrs. Sadie Breeding and Mrs. Carrie Worley, all of this neighborhood.

Mrs. John Eskew

Elizabeth Owen, daughter of James and Lucinda Owen, was born April 2, 1845, and departed this life April 2, 1926, aged 81 years. She was the third daughter in a family of eleven children and knew the hardships of pioneer life, as the father brought his family to Iowa in an early day settling on a farm 6 miles west of Indianola. Here in the year 1865, she was married to Thomas Lucas who died in 1873.

In the year 1880, she was married to John M. Eskew, who preceded her in death last November. Of the five children born to this union three survived. They are Mrs. Della Ferrall, Mrs. Sadie Breeding, and Mrs. Carrie Worley, all of Winterset; also one step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Snow, of Hume, Missouri. In her passing she leaves to mourn their loss four sisters, two brothers, her children, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

In early life she United with the M. E. church and later transferred her membership to the U. B. church and was a faithful member to the last.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the home and interment was made at the Blair Chapel cemetery.
