N. W. McBeath, who had been residing with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harvey, for the past 22 months, died at the Madison county Memorial hospital Tuesday night, October 22nd, after an extended illness at the age of 74.
He was a native of Whiting, Iowa and a son of Wilson and Emma McBeath. Following his school at Whiting, he attended Iowa state college at Ames, and was graduated from the Capitol City Commercial college in Des Moines.
He was married to Edith Cassady of Whiting, December 30, 1908 and they made their home in or near Whiting. He was employed in a bank there and was in the insurance business. He later was in the Farm department of the Des Moines office of the Great American Insurance company, retiring in 1951.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Sioux City consistory, and the Za Ga Zig shrine in Des Moines; he was also a member of the Blue Goose , an insurance organization. He had served as treasurer of the Iowa State fair board for 30 years resigning in May 1957, because of poor health.
Mrs. McBeath died December 29, 1955, and he is survived by their three children, Mrs. Laurence Jones of Westchester, Illinois, Wilson McBeath of Cuyaboga (Cuyahoga) Falls, Ohio, and Mrs. Harvey of Winterset. He also leaves five grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Ward Miner and Mrs. Grace Crawford of Whiting.
Dr. Charles Hauser, pastor of the Plymouth Congregational church in Des Moines, will conduct his funeral services at Dunn’s Funeral home Friday, Oct. 25th, at 11 o’clock, and burial services will be at 11 o’clock, Saturday morning in Whiting.
