Succumbs at Hospital in Dexter After Long Illness
Mrs. P. E. Rose, well known resident of Earlham, died at the Dexter hospital last Thursday, March 24, after an extended period of failing health. She was 76 years of age.
Mrs. Rose was a native of Casanova, New York, where she was born Aug. 26, 1872. She was the former Maude Rowena DeClercq, daughter of Edwin and Lydia DeClercq. She came to Iowa early in life and spent her active years in Dallas and Madison counties, with the exception of 10 years at Pierre, S. Dak.
She was married to P. E. Rose at DeSoto on November 26, 1891. They made their home in Winterset for a number of years while Mr. Rose served as clerk of the Madison county district court.
She was long active in the Christian and Presbyterian churches at Earlham, and was affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star, and the Past Matron's club, and Chautauqua circle.
Surviving are her husband; four children, Mrs. M. W. Junkin of Earlham, Mrs. Peter Anderson of Des Moines, Russell Rose of Jefferson City, Mo., and Mrs. Harold Ganoe of Jefferson; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, Charles DeClercq, of Visalia, California.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for Mrs. P. E. Rose, 76, who died last Thursday at the Dexter clinic. Mrs. Rose was well-known for her work in local churches and other organizations. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Past Matron's Club and the Chautauqua.
Rev. S. R. Overholser conducted the funeral services and interment was in the Earlham cemetery.

The sundown splendid and serene.Those words seem fitting today in recording the passing of our beloved friend.
Maude Rowena, daughter of Edwin L. and Lodia Andrus DeClereq was born in Casanova, New York on August 26, 1872. She was the oldest of three children. The others being Edwin, who died when two years old, and Charles L. now living in Visalia, California.
On November 26, 1891 she was married at DeSoto, Iowa, to P. E. Rose, and together they spent almost fifty-eight years of devoted companionship.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose were the parents of four children: Mrs. M. W. Junkin of Earlham; Mrs. Peter Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa; Russell L. Rose of Jefferson City, Missouri; and Mrs. Harold D. Ganoe of Jefferson, Iowa. There are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
