Death of Mrs. J. J. Ladd

The death of Mrs. J. J. Ladd of Douglas township, while in the prime of life, brings the keenest sorrow to family and friends. She was taken ill with flu, which aggravated a weakened heart trouble of long standing and the end came on last Thursday evening after an illness of a little more than a week. A more extended sketch of her life appears elsewhere in this paper.

MRS. J. J. LADD

Mary A. Gillespie, daughter of John and Jehannah Gillespie, was born in Warren county Iowa, Sept. 18, 1878. She came to the eastern part of Madison county with her parents when a small child. She was married to John J. Ladd Nov. 20, 1901. To this union seven children were born, Rose A., William and Walter of Winterset; Everett of Iowa City; Marvin, Melvin and Boyd, in the home.

She was baptized when a child and attended church when her health and family cares would permit. She was a good neighbor, ever ready to help others, but her home always came first. The family cannot remember that she ever spent a night away from home. Hers was a beautiful motherhood, filled with faithfulness and true mother love.

She departed this life on March 19, 1925, aged 46 years, 6 months and 1 day. She leaves besides her husband and seven children, three sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Susie Dooley of Miles City, Mont.; Mrs. L. P. McLavy, Ella, Mark and John Gillespie of Nesbitt, Miss.

She will be missed by a great circle of friends and neighbors, as she has held the love and esteem of those who knew her in every community in which she has lived.
