George W. Coon, son of Mansard and Rachel Coon, was born in Sterling, Ill., Feb. 25, 1849. When he was a small boy, the family moved near Montezuma, Iowa, and lived there for four years, coming then to Winterset, which has since been his home except three years spent in Des Moines.
He was married to Laura Farlow, who passed away April 8, 1905. To this union were born three children: Bert and Mrs. Pearl Ladd, in the home, and Clyde, now in California.
When a young man, Mr. Coon was a drug clerk for several years and then began painting. He worked at the painting trade for many years and was well known for his good work by the older residents of the county.
The past few years he has been unable to work and lived with his children in Des Moines for three years, returning to Winterset three years ago. Since then he has been confined to his bed, an almost constant sufferer.
George Coon passed away April 3, 1925, leaving besides his children, one brother, R. E. Coon of Winterset, one granddaughter and one great grandaughter, and other relatives and many friends
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. F. C. McCallon of the Church of Christ, were held at the Tidrick funeral home Sunday afternoon, April 5th.
