BLANCHE CORNELL SERVICES HELD

Death Came Suddenly Sunday To Well Known Winterset Resident

Mrs. John Cornell of Winterset died Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Madison county Memorial hospital here after a brief illness. She had been in failing health for some time, but was not known to be seriously ill and had been admitted to the hospital only three days prior to her death.

Mrs. Cornell was 70 years of age. She was the former Blanche A. Young, daughter of Walter S. and Rose Beem Young, and was born in Winterset, Jan. 27, 1887.

She was married to John Cornell at Winterset on March 10, 1907. They started housekeeping on a farm near Winterset, later moving into town. In 1919 they left Winterset for 12 years living at Leon, Des Moines, Dows and Creston, before returning to this community in 1931.

For the past 18 years, they had operated the Cornell Home grocery in Winterset. She was a member of the Winterset Presbyterian church.

Mr. and Mrs. Cornell observed their Golden Wedding day last March 10.

Mrs. Cornell leaves her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Sue Sollner of Battle Creek, Mich.; three grandchildren, Michael, Susan and Becky Sollner and a sister, Mrs. John P. White of Winterset.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from Anderson’s home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. George DeF. Fisher, pastor of the Winterset Presbyterian church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
